    Hi guys
I’ve searched around for this but can’t find it (someone must’ve asked this question).
I have a modx site that I have set up just right goldilocks style and would like to re-use it. However I dont want to migrate the site, I want to be able to package it all up with my snippets, tvs, chunks and templates and then be able to install it using the installer. I can’t find any doco on how this is done. Has anyone covered this?

    Many thanks
    Warren

You would need to hack the installer, no two ways about it!

If you already have the site, you basically need sql to make the tables that power all the snippets. You can do this in phpmyadmin. With all the sql in a separate file, you could then run this against the DB during install.

So you add all your custom files to a base install.
      Copy it all up.
      Run the "custom" installer...

      - Have I gone mad (would this work??)

I think that would work, but if you were using MODx Revolution, you’d write a script that creates a Transport Package containing all your custom stuff. If the script is run inside of MODx, it can get everything but the files easily from the DB. Transporting the files is simple too. After the regular MODx install, you’d install the Transport Package in Package Management and that would be it.

In theory, you could also modify the build.transport.php file that MODx uses to build the SVN version of Revolution. Then it would all happen in the regular install.

There are pending changes coming for the Evo installer that are quite handy, but it will likely never be as cool as the packaging transport system for Revo.
