Are you grouping all your news articles together or are you have a parent for each month?
Not sure if you can nest ditto calls but does the following work?
Structure:
-News
-Jan
-article 1
-article 2
-Feb
-Article 1
-Article 2
then have a ditto call within the news page the displays all the children l level deep and the contents of each child.
The in the content of each month have another ditto call that gets that containers children.
Not tired this and not sure if it’s possible but might be worth a try. Other than that there maybe somthing you can do with phx.
