I have had numerous problems transferring a development site to our server. I have had to move versions backwards from Evolution 1 to version 0.9.6.3 because even a completely clean install of Evolution 1 won’t work on the rather old server we are using, but I believe it is fine enough with PHP 5.04 and the MySQL version 4.1.20.

I transferred the files (working on another server in Evo) to a working environment on my own computer and I then downgraded on my own computer and it work fine. Then I transferred the files across to the server which I want to use.

Then I ran an installation of 0.9.6.3 on the files I transferred (I did this by only copying the install directory to the server). The installation program said everything was fine.

    The manager works.

I have copied the paths from a clean working install of 0.9.6.3 on the server (altering the file paths to remove the subdirectory)for file manager and assets.

When I try and access the front page I get this:

    « MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
    « PHP Parse Error »

    PHP error debug
Error: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory
    Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2
    File: /var/www/vhosts/xxxx.co.uk/httpdocs/xxxx/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(745) : eval()’d code
    Line: 10

I’ve tried altering parameters in the .htaccess and config.inc.php files. Mainly rewrite on and off and having / and /xxxx the installation is in a subdirectory.

I have checked the directory /httpdocs/xxxx/manager/includes and found a file called document.parser.class.inc.php using my ftp client.

Does anyone have any clue where I go from here? I believe I’m so close to getting this running I just can’t believe it isn’t already.

I’m still thinking along the lines that somehow I have something wrong in the .htaccess or config.inc.php but I believe I’ve tried all reasonable combinations. Is there another place where I may have a problem?

If you read this and recognise the problem I plead with you to help me. I think it is something really simple now and this has been the trial of my life.

Don’t forget to alter the paths in the tools->configuration section in your manager.

I tried to follow the working base installation I had in another directory so I have:

        Resource path: /var/www/vhosts/xxxx.co.uk/httpdocs/xxx/assets
        Resource URL: assets/
        and
        Manager path: /var/www/vhosts/xxxx.co.uk/httpdocs/xxx/

these settings mirror a working base installation in another directory (copied exactly except I removed the directory name) although that only has the post-installation front page as a test.

I was really trying to eliminate this as a problem, should or could they be shorter?

did you clear the MODx cache?

If the absolute path from the file system root of the server to your MODx install is /var/www/vhosts/xxxx.co.uk/httpdocs/xxx/
            Then it should be right.

Not shure if this is crucial but I’ve a slash at the end of my ressource path...

I am not sure I cleared the cache before I transferred across and installed again but have done so several times since.

Have you checked the ending slash at the ressource path?

Many thanks. I had a feeling it was something small, not this small though!

Rather depressingly for me that seems to be it!

Yeah, the lucky linux is very petty at things like that smiley

Had the same a couple of times when switching from one host to another and therefore the paths changed.
Also one time my lovely hoster has updated the system and the paths changed too...

Anyway, once you know where to look and what that error means, you’re armed for this.
