Do Not Display Template Variable if Null

I have several template variables setup in my template. There are times when certain information is necessary on a page and other times when it’s not. It’s not really an issue except for images. Is it possible to avoid the empty image if a template variable is null?

I suppose there’s several ways of doing this...

The one that comes readily to mind is using the modx plugin PHx...it will allow you to create some nice conditionals...

Here are two examples of (exactly) what you are asking about:

Another option, if you do not want to install PHx, is to use a snippet. Here is something I have in my tool box:

<?php
// Display TV only if content exixts
// [!tvVar? &tv=`tvName`!]
$tv = isset( $tv ) ? $tv : "";
$id = isset( $id )? $id : $modx->documentIdentifier;
$tvValue = $modx -> getTemplateVarOutput( $tv, $id, $published = 1 );

if(($tv != "") && ($tvValue[$tv] != "")){
	$output = $tvValue[$tv];
} else {
	$output = "";
}

return $output;

?>
