As anyone following the new modx Revolution development may have seen at http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/board,280.0.html there has been active discussion regards the design for the new admin interface, being new to the modx community I’m unsure of process but may I ask that we set-up a working group to help develop the new admin user interface.

I am more than willing to help with design, and I know that there are many more just as suitable members who would also like to help with the design and development process, having a design background I’d be keen to add my design input while I’m not so experienced with the aJax and PHP development side of things.

As we are all aware, WordPress, Expression Engine and Moveable Type all have attractive interfaces and I’d like to see modx also provide a competitive advantage within this area.

    The proposed process would follow:

    • Analyse what works and doesn’t with the current admin (we all know real user feedback provides and invaluable resource)
    • Structure new menu system, user processes
    • Create wire frame, displaying placement of content
    • Design visual template, part of the new modx branding process
    • User test, Analyse feedback and make according amendments/adjustments
    • Test
    • Produce learning materials
    • Launch

Please do let me know if I’ve missed any steps wink

Wow lots of work but through a professional structured process we can guarantee the new admin UI will be a real revolution for modx.

    smiley

Nice initiative. You can count me in. I am not a designer or UI expert so not sure where I would fit in this group. grin

There could be a similar working group for Evo as well.

hi dev_cw, do you have a link for the Evo working group, I’d certainly be interested in seeing how they’ve worked.

It only exists in theory. At the moment the only official working groups that I know of are the foundation/coding team members who do 99% of the core development work and are aided by the community in general (hats of to you folks, you are doing a great job wink )

I was just saying that it is a good idea to do a Revolution working group, and that a second working group for Evolution would be cool also (but does not exist yet)  grin

I assume you checked The new manager - looking for best practice solutions in the MODx Next forum ?

There is a lot going on right now on the UI redesign, this being said I think a working group could help push the enveloppe... I am no UI expert either, but I am in favor of pushing things further (especially, I’d like more contrast, bigger buttons...). You can count me in too !
