    Hey Everyone,

I am a veteran MODXer. I have installed and setup hundreds of web sites with MODx, but today I have hit a problem I have not encountered before.

I am trying to move a site from my development server to my clients shared host and initially everything looked ok but I could not login to the manager. I opened the config files and made sure all the settings were correct, and they were. Went into the database using phpMyAdmin and checked the password and even reset the password to make sure I knew it was correct and it was. Still could not access the manager with any of the 3 Manager USer accoutns I had created. I was successfully connecting to the DB though because all of the content in the website was one the site.

So I tried to do a clean install. Upon trying to navigate to www...com/install the browser just sits there in and endless loop of "connecting...." and "waiting...." the install page will never load.

To see what I mean got to http://www.ccregional.org/install/

Here is the server info, anyone had any experience like this?

    Platform: Debian
    MySQL Version: 5.0.45
    PHP Version: 5.2.2

    Thanks,

    Bryan

Is manager/includes/config.inc.php there and readable? MODx seems not to be either unable to find it or unable to read it (or it’s corrupted).

Here is what I have tried so far.

Decided to scrap the moving of the site for now and just get a new MODx installation working.

Made sure to upload via the root FTP account not a subaccount. (idea found in another thread)
Followed the installation instructions and set assets/cache and files to 777 assets/images and assets/export to 777
created a blank config.inc.php and gave it 666 and 777 permissions (at different attempts)

I can load the homepage and get the click here to install screen.
Seems like it finds install/index.php and tries to load http://www.ccregional.org/install/index.php?action=language

which is where it keeps trying to connect and reconnect over and over. No errors ever displayed.

        Thanks,

        Bryan

Just a quick note that I had to remove MODx and put their old site back online.

I’m still looking for answers as to why MODx would not install.

          Thanks

I think that loop happens when MODx is unable to write $_SESSION data. The directory pointed to by session_save_path must be writable.
