    Re: Evolution (MODx 1.0.0)

I’m new to MODx and while I’m picking things up quickly, there’s a bit about Weblinks that mystifies me.

I understand the purpose and display of a weblink’s title and menu title, and how it redirects to another resource / URL. What I don’t understand is why it has/needs a longtitle and a summary. They don’t seem to display anywhere. As I understand it, Weblinks are only really useful for adding links/redirects inside menu structures, which is why you have a menutitle. Where, then, would one ever use a longtitle or a summary? Under what circumstances would these be useful?

And, for that matter, setting a template for a weblink. If it’s not displayed in and of itself, why does it need templates or template variables? Any external site you link to won’t use your templates, and any internal resource you link to will have its own template and template variable settings.

    Can someone enlighten me?

If you include your weblinks in a Ditto index, you may want to display what’s in those two fields. Assigning a template to the weblink allows you to access/display data stored in the TVs.
