    hello,

    I am trying to install modx locally. I have a website home page (with content)and additional pages (no content) on my computer already. I have downloaded 1.0.0 and placed the extracted folder in my root folder for the web site.

    I open index.php and I get:

    *{margin:0;padding:0} body{margin:50px;background:#eee;} .install{padding:10px;border:5px solid #f22;background:#f99;margin:0 auto;font:120%/1em serif;text-align:center;} p{ margin:20px 0; } a{font-size:200%;color:#f22;text-decoration:underline;margin-top: 30px;padding: 5px;}

    MODx is not currently installed or the configuration file cannot be found.

    Do you want to install now?
    "; exit; } } // start session startCMSSession(); // initiate a new document parser include_once(MODX_MANAGER_PATH.'/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php'); $modx = new DocumentParser; $etomite = &$modx; // for backward compatibility // set some parser options $modx->minParserPasses = 1; // min number of parser recursive loops or passes $modx->maxParserPasses = 10; // max number of parser recursive loops or passes $modx->dumpSQL = false; $modx->dumpSnippets = false; // feed the parser the execution start time $modx->tstart = $tstart; // Debugging mode: $modx->stopOnNotice = false; // Don't show PHP errors to the public if(!isset($_SESSION['mgrValidated']) || !$_SESSION['mgrValidated']) { @ini_set("display_errors","0"); } // execute the parser if index.php was not included if (!MODX_API_MODE) { $modx->executeParser(); } ?>

    Naturally I click on install now. Unfortunatly nothing happens. I tried first with FF 3.5.2 then Opera 9.64 and IE 6.
    Opera is the only browser than even reacts to the install now link.

    It displays the following:

    You tried to access the address file://localhost/%22install/index.php/%22, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

    Have I forgoten to install some additional software with modx?
    If you have any ideas on what I did wrong I would be happy to hear them.
    Thanks

      Hi Sourkraut,

      Welcome to MODx smiley

      Are you using WAMP, XAMPP, or similar? i.e. are Apache, MySQL and PHP installed and running correctly before you attempt to install? That address (file://localhost/...) seems to suggest otherwise.

      This should also be useful...adapt it to your situation (e.g. for a local install, you are not really going to use ftp, most likely..)

        I looks like maybe you don’t have an /install directory.

        The first step in intstallation is not to open index.php but rather:

        mysite.com/install

        But you’ll need an install folder there for that to work.

          HI
          I did not have xammp installed smiley
          Now I install xampp and PHP. Apache is running and MySql is running as well.
          I am still getting the same error message.

          BobRay I am not too sure what you mean with install directory.
          Attached is a pic of my directory tree.
          Thanks

            Been a while since I used XAMPP on windows, but unless you’ve changed where the web root directory points to under XAMPP then I think you’ll need to place the MODx install into: D:\xampp\htdocs

            Also, check that you’re not running another web server at the same time, e.g. IIS.

              Garryn is definitely right. You need to move your MODx files in or under the /XAMPP/htdocs folder. The usual thing would be to put a folder called modx in htdocs and install all the MODx files and directories there.

              To install, then:

              http://localhost/modx/install
