Going through installation - have created a mysql database on my web server (local host )

Asks for database host, login and password - test and get Ok:

Test database server connection and view collations.
Connection to host: passed - collations now available

    Then it asks for

    Database name:
    Table prefix:
    Connection method:

    Collation:
→ Create or test selection of your database.
Checking database: failed - could not create database

Not sure why it has failed, I put in the full database name I had already created (including owner), I am assuming the second process is to create tables in my already created database, but it appears that it wants to create another database? How can you have the original database host, login and password config requests at the top without already having the database created in the first place? ie Not sure why it wants to create the database as a second process when the first process is requesting the host ,login amd password info. for such said database that needs to exist in order for it pass succesfully. I hope this makes sense.... apologies if I am being stupid here.

    thx
    M.

if the db exist already it wont try to create one. make sure you have the db name correctly, check with your host how the db is named exactly. sometimes it’s like user323_modx.
If the user have permission on that db you can move to teh db collation and choose what the error recommends (latin1_swedish_ci) IIRC

I also noticed that sometimes a simple refresh and putting the data again let me moves to next step.

I had the same issue. Like auberydude said, sometimes you have to check to see if your host places another name before your database name. My host places my server name before any file so it would read as such server name_database name instead of just the database name alone.

Thanks guys for all your input. I had the d/base name correct - the problem it appears is that when I created the user under MYSQL database under CPANEL, that it didn’t give me an option to add any user Privileges to the user. If you instead create the database under the MySQL Wizard under Cpanel, it does give you the option to add privileges which obviously in hind-sight you need. Simple really.... rolleyes
