Iām currently hosting modx on at the root level of an IP address (ex: 123.22.33.44) - the domain name is not yet pointed.
Now we are going to point the domain name. Does the site_url automatically pick-up the change and read the domain name or is the site_url stored somewhere I need to change. Thanks.

It will automatically pick it up; it is generated at run-time every time a page is requested by code in the config.inc.php file.

But you will need to clear the page caches if you do not use a non-cacheable snippet to generate the site_url on your pages, i.e. <base href="[(site_url)]"></base> would be cached into the page. Otherwise, all links will appear relative to this...
As in "Clear Cache" in the manager?
