I just want to express my excitement!

I recently decided to quit developing my own CMS I have been working for 5 years on and deployed to a couple of websites. Somebody referred me to ModX.

First I didn’t get it and looked at other Cms’es. Some I knew were terrible for my taste, others sounded right but were too obscure and didn’t fit my needs.
So last week I got back into ModX. All I can say: I love it!
I’m outfitting my homepage with it, it’s so easy to introduce templates, snippets and chunks in there.

It’s very intuitive, transparent and above all easy to use. Kudos!

I would like to contribute to the project, I think I have the expertise for it (I know PHP, MYSQL and JavaScript very well with 8, 7 and 5 years of experience in it. How do I apply?

There are several ways you can help the project but it basically breaks down into two directions:

      1) help the current modx version: There is an endless number of possible add-ons that could be developed to make modx ’bigger’. As well as some updating of some existing features (and bug fixes).

      or

      2) help with the next generation of modx (Revolution) which is in alpha and could always use more participation to get it ready for release. Best place to start here is downloading (or SVN) the latest release and seing what it is all about.

Welcome back to modx, good to have a new enthusiastic community member  grin

Help with bug fixes and feature requests, please! There’s a ton of them in JIRA. That would be the official request from the project co-founder. wink

If you do manage to fix some things or implement a request, just simply attach it as a patch file to the issue and trigger a Crucible review. Once the developers have had a chance to review the issue, we can then apply it to source easily and get it committed to the project. A few iterations of fixes sailing through the review cycle and you’ll earn yourself source commit privileges.

          Welcome aboard!

                  Thanks for the replies!

I will contribute to the existing code-base, it’s the software I will be using the most.

Developers are definitely needed - and especially in the code base for Revolution. I’d love to have another JS guru for Revo. smiley If you’d like more information on Revolution development, I recommend doing:

                    1. Go checkout the latest Revolution branch in SVN and get to know the feel of the new version. The SVN repository for revolution is here: http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/revolution

I also recommend reading the Development and Testing Notes for Developing in SVN

                    2. Read this: http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=4751488

                    3. Post questions about Revolution in the forums here, and get to understand the MVC/C style in Revolution, as well as the xPDO backend.

                    4. Make patches and bugfixes to the Revolution codebase, and submit them in our issue tracker, JIRA.

                    5. Once you’ve proven that you’re committed and understand the development of Revolution, one of the Revolution core development team members will contact you with more information, such as commit privileges, contact info, and more.

Thanks for your interest - we’re definitely in need and wanting more committed developers to add to the team!
