I have been trying to log in via the http://[server_home]/manager url, which I thought was per instructions for getting started with a new installation. Logging in as admin (with the password as saved in the modx_manager_users table) still doesn’t work. The secondary account I added does still let me get in from this login screen. Is this not the right way to get into maintenance mode for the new modx installation?

Betcha anything that he’s got tomcat on his server; it conflicts with the MODx manager.

sounds way too over complicated to me smiley
use this to reset the pass then change it from the Manager.

Maybe to you, but those are the same steps outlined at Bob’s guides except that there’s some help there on how to do them.

The Wiki info is useless to the many users who don’t know how to do these two steps:

          1. Go to the table modx_manager_users
          2. Edit record id 1

I experienced the exact same problem after I installed modx 1.0.0 on my mac. Unable to login at all, until I asked to reset my password. After looking into this a little more, I saw the same thing as ebenezerhouse, two different md5 hashes in the database. So I used a rainbow table to decode the mysterious md5 encrypted password and found that it was set to ’password’ sans quotes...

I remember when doing the install that I had mistyped the password I wanted to set the admin account to. I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

Many thanks to all who have replied. I still haven’t figured out what originally happened but was finally able to fix it by resetting the "admin" password from the secondary account (that I had created directly from within MySQL). All’s well that end well, but this was definitely a tough problem for someone just starting out.

I’d just like to say that there seems to be a fantastic level of support in the modx community!

On a (somewhat) unrelated note, once I got modx fully installed and was able to log in to it, my first question was "now what do I do with it?". However, after going through a couple of tutorials I have seen the light! This is an amazingly powerful system! I’m still getting my first web site put together, but the possibilities are blowing my mind. Hopefully I’ll get up to speed fairly quickly and I may be able to help out other noobies before too long.

              Thanks again, folks.
