Your solutions works well Bruno, and it does create a ordered commaseparated list of documents. But as always there is a problem. And the problem is pagination. I figured I could use the return values from the snippet in a standard Ditto call. Like this:

    [!Ditto? &startID=`186` &summarize=`3` &total=`20` &paginate=`1` &tpl=`ConcertList` &display=`200` &extenders=`docSort` &documents=`[[DocumentList]]` &paginateAlwaysShowLinks=`1`!]

I have tested [[DocumentList]] by itself and it does return the right list of documents.

So it works for the first page, but on clicking on the next page pagination link it crashes with an SQL error. I believe the error comes from the DocumentList snippet returning "no documents found". My guess is that when I click the next page link, the url becomes :
http://localhost/index.php?id=186&start=3, and that start=3 somehow affects what the [[DocumentLists]] snippet returns.

This is getting pretty complicated, but it is so close to working that I don’t want to give up now. Any ideas anyone?

UPDATE: I think I may just have stumbled on a solution for this. I set the Ditto &id parameter in the snippet to a something unique, and the pagination no longer affects the snippets search results. Needs more testing, but I think it may work.
