    Hello ModX community,
I’m a freelance web designer/developer and am starting to use ModXcms for my client’s websites. Some clients request that I exclude the ModX copyright information in the footer. Basically, I was wondering if I am breaching the ModX copyright/user agreement if I remove the copyright information in the footer for the client’s website? If so, is there any way to work out something so that I can do what i’m talking about. I have an ad on my web business’ website that advertises ModXcms. Thank you for your help wink

Yes you can remove this, I assume you are talking about the pre-loaded content demo install here, if you look at some threads in this forum http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/board,14.0.html you can see many different site designs using MODx, some leave a reference to MODx some don’t, you are free to choose. Note that if you use individual components like templates for instance from the resources site you may need to leave references in there to the original creator if the usage conditions say so but in general you can customize as you wish. I believe the only thing you must comply with is the GPL but IANAL here. Merry Xmas.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

By default MODx never bound you to put references in your output thus front-end and back-end but leave the references in the core-code.
For more infos on this refer to GNU public license, Carried by your MODx download.

You might find this interesting: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,10183.0.html

My view is you should contribute to the project in some form or another:
          - links on the client sites
          - links on personal sites
          - contribute to resources (templates, snippets, modules, etc.)
          - contribute on the financial front (aka donate)

Your welcome to do what you wish, but I would suggest giving back when/where you can.

I think the only requirement is to leave the copyright info in the manager login page (I think that is the only place a copyright appears). Read the modx licenses page and this is what I understood there as well.
