If you have RewriteBase /new AND have RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /new/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA], then think about what you’re telling it to do:

Start from /new, then from there add /new/index.php...

So what you’re feeding MODx is /new/new/index.php?q=alias.html.

Get rid of the /new in the RewriteRule; you only need it in the RewriteBase.

I think also get rid of the slash in your current RewriteRule?

Get rid of the final / in the RewriteBase; leave the leading slash in the RewriteRule. Remember, it’s creating a URL with the RewriteBase + the RewriteRule.

Oh... mine is set up the opposite way, and seems to work great, but I’m definitely no expert in URL rewriting smiley

                  Try clearing the site cache.

                      Here’s what mine looks like:
                      RewriteBase /modx
                      ...
                      # For Friendly URLs
                      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
                      RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

No trailing / in RewriteBase, and no leading slash in RewriteRule.
