We need some information; what version of MODx? What is your server (Windows, Linux, etc)? What is your web server (Apache, IIS, etc)? What version of PHP and MySQL?

It looks like a JavaScript error, firebug picks up this:

        $("database_collation") is null
        [Break on this error] database_collation = $(’database_collation’).value;\n

You can look at it here:
        xxxx

mod-x version: MODx-1.0.0.tar.gz, just downloaded it.

        Mysql:
        Server version: 5.0.51a-24+lenny1 (Debian)

        Server:
        Linux debian 2.6.26-2-686 #1 SMP Fri Aug 14 01:27:18 UTC 2009 i686

        Apache2:
        Server version: Apache/2.2.9 (Debian)
        Server built: Jul 14 2009 20:03:28

Have you got the php-mysql package installed on your server? Without this php won’t talk to mysql, on RH/Centos distro’s this doesnt come as standard, you have to install it seperately, I don’t know about Debian
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
