If you want to run more than one site I’d recommend installing something like Virtualmin ... I’ve used it quite a few times on CentOS5 (which is as close as you can get to RHEL5) and it adds it’s own repo’s in and uses the stock versions of just about all software so yum will still work (although I believe RHEL uses up2date by default doesn’t it? Not sure if that would work for the updates of virtualmin but the stock packages should be fine).
With a basic untouched install of virtualmin ModX runs quite happily.
Ive had a MODx 0.9.6.1 site on a Centos 5 server for quite a while now with no need to add additional repos. RHEL 5 does use yum now(older RHELS didnt), it depends on exactly what you want to do of course but unless youre doing something esoteric you should be Ok. Also as said above you may wish to consider something like virtualmin, otherwise you will have to set up httpd/mysql and their associated modules manually, this is not for everybody
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
