Im not going to post on the old thread so here it is.
I can not get this to work! I have tried both methods mentioned. I get no errors and no data, if I throw in junk, I can get errors.
I have spent 2 and a half hours playing with this and nothing. The database is ss2 and here is my query - as it works in php, some stuff left out obviously.

Is that too complicated? It works fine with pure php. modx has access to the db. Sorry Im new to php and mysql and I have trouble getting a grip on new things
