    Hi,

I am working on converting a static site for a customer into MODx the current site has over 400 pages and the html code is pretty awful, however for this i am going to write a VB.NET app to parse out the data for each page and save it as a new file with the same structure.

Is there any suggestions for handling existing links in documents to be imported? or is it a case of going through each document when imported and updating them to the correct new links?

    Thanks Aaron.

Ah I forgot about that Thanks smiley

At the moment pages are like aboutus.cfm but I can write something in VB.NET to do a search and replace on these as im parsing out doc content.

Sounds like a good plan as initially we are porting to MODx and adding some features then later on will redesign site and aim for better SEO.

I guess my next question is there anything to detect dead / outdated links in MODx sites?

      Thanks again.

If your old files are .cfm you dont need to write something in VB.NET to do a search and replace on these as im parsing out doc content. Just change the Suffix for friendly URLs to .cfm and as stated above give each modx page the same alias as the page name you are removing from the old site, that way all current links in search engins will still link to the new pages in modx.
