Is there a guide somewhere how to make my own installer?
I want to have the possibility to include additional snippets upon install.

Not I am aware of, but you can explore the current installer script and see how its done for the current addons.

I guess a place to start would be the action.options.php file in the install directory, you would have to modify this if you wanted a separate section for you stuff. If you just want to include it in the snippets section add your snippets details to the $moduleSnippets array in the file setup.info.php.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

What I do is I unpack the modx release then I re-package it with the add-ons I regularly use and I strip out all of the unneeded languages (these really slow down ftp uploads and only few sites are that international that they need them all). Then I do a little personalization by adding dirs I use like css and include jQuery (and some standard plugins). I then either upload a compressed file and unpack directly on the server or do a standard ftp, depending on the host limitations.

This way the snippets are available it is just a matter of installing them in the manager (copy+paste) when/if I need them rather then having them already installed (remember installed snippets are stored in the cache so they take up space even if not used). I find this easier than editing the installer.

thanks for the replies guys. I’ll defiantly try that and if I succeed I’ll put it in the wiki.
Shane thanks sharing the way you do it. Like always, a much K.I.S.S way to do what I’m asking. the usual smiley

I just thought it’ll be nice to choose them add ons from check boxes. I usually spend couple hours alone just after installing to do all my custom snippets installations. I had hopes someone already tried what I wanted.
I also noticed some installers adds chuncks and TVs by themselves (FoxyBack is populated the db with shitloads of them), Does anyone have tips how to go about that as well maybe?

cool it’s all inside aetup.info.php as shamblett says.
Looking deeper into my idea, think I’ll need to spend a week just preparing the installer with all my snippets/modules/plugins. that’s before troubleshooting.

but chunks seems easy. I should try that first I guess maybe I’ll get the ass to work on it.
