Hello,
I made a MODx site for a client of mine last year and he’s very happy with the system so far. Now he wants a redesign and some new features to go with it: a blog and a newsletter. Plus, he wants his external forum integrated into MODx.
Ok., so I know you can have a blog-like thing with Ditto, there’s a bridge to SMF forum and I’m sure there’s also an newsletter module somewhere. But what’s important to him, is that you only have to login once. So the visitor logs in and then he can write something in the forum, or leave a comment on the blog (or write an entry if he has the right to do so).
Can this be done in MODx?
Furthermore, I tried to build a blog for my site last year and after a lot of work, I chose to drop the idea and go for the real thing (wordpress in that case). So another question is, can ths single-login-thing also be achieved when you use Wordpress (or another blog system)? Don’t get me wrong, I like Ditto and MODx, but to my experience, it can’t quite replace a specialised blog software like Wordpress (and why should it?).
Any input, advice, opinion is appreciated!
My client already has an offer from a big agency to switch to Typo3 (and they’re even pretty cheap) and they told him all this is no problem in Typo3. But I like this client and wouldn’t want him to deal with the nightmare called Typo3 backend... (and also I don’t want this agency to steal my important client and boast something like "Another frustrated company with some small, unknown CMS finally switches to Typo3, the best CMS in the universe" *argh*).
