    Hi,

I’m in the process of selecting a CMS (having never used one before but with resonable Django/PHP experience). Chief candidates include MODX and Symphony and maybe Concrete5.

Question. Is there or can there be a simpler User Interface for Client Editors to simply update a field or add a news item? I wonder if the screenshot here http://modxcms.com/learn/screenshots.html#assets/images/screens-legacy/welcome.png might appear intimidating for a non technical person. It looks like the guts of Modx will be exposed for the developer (good) and also for someone who doesn’t want to think about all this and just wants to change a phone number or whatever (bad).

I’m thinking of something like the Django Admin as shown here - http://www.djangobook.com/en/1.0/chapter06/

    Can this be done?

    Cheers

You can achieve some serious UI levity by using the ManagerManager plugin to rename, hide or change fields for content managers in the MODx Manager. It will need refactoring for Evolution 1.0 but works 100% in 0.9.6.3. We recommend to anyone who wants to allow users to edit without seeing more than they need to.

        Thanks for that SR,

I saw a reference to ManangerManager on this
        http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/other/working-with-a-content-management-framework-modx/#more-2434

Is this Tutorial still current? Particularly with respect to the new Revolution version?
Should I go with Revolution? I don’t want to learn the old way of doing things.
I’m confused by MODx Revolution 2.0.0-beta-2 Advanced and MODx Revolution 2.0.0-beta-2 (Not Advanced?)
Finally, I have a WAMP setup. Can I install modx to test it out via localhost?

PS - The ManagerManager link doesn’t display properly on IE7. I can just see the top of the black menu bar then the green footer appears.
        Fine on Safari.

ManagerManager will not work in Revolution, it will require a version to be developed. It will work on Evolution after a few minor updates.

Can you elaborate on the minor updates? I have to cater MODx for someone to just post/edit.

You might also take a look at FDM (Front-End Document Manager), if your needs are relatively simple. It will allow users to log in in the front end and create/edit/delete documents.

I think the only place to get it is at the end of the first message in this thread:

for someone who doesn’t want to think about all this and just wants to change a phone number or whatever (bad).

you could redirect a manager user directly to the frontend after loging in, and let him edit the content via quickedit. if you got different editeable sections (TVs), you can mark them with a hash-symbol ( [*#TVname*] ), so on the frontend he will see an additional button attached to this section that will open the WYSIWYG editor
