I just got told by my dept. manager that the current installation of CMSMS just won’t cut it on one of our sites, and since I’ve grown fond of Modx I would like to migrate the entire page over to it.
So my question is: Have any of you done this previously? How could this be done? Or if you haven’t actually done it, but know the steps (not to vague), what would they be?
I don’t have a tight schedule so I would like to roll it out on Revolution, but if you know how to do it with Evolution I could start there.

    Help is greatly appreciated!

If it’s not a tight schedule this might be an interesting situation to test the model engineering prowess of xPDO and import the content into the MODx database automagically. Sounds like a good subject for a tutorial if you ask me!

On a side topic, why the forced migration; you typically hear very good things about CMSMS and I’ve got nothing but respect for that app.

We’ve outgrown CMSMS in a big way. It has become very unmanageable because of the site’s size and some poor decisions early in the project (before my time). Some new specs for the site have also been put on the table where we need more flexibility. I’m not a big fan of the user defined tags and such. It’s also very poorly documented in my opinion. Not that the Modx documentation is crèmè de la crèmè, but at least you can figure out stuff quicker than in CMSMS by sifting through the source and forums.

Off topic: I’ve managed to find solutions online for everything but my WebLoginPE profiles (with tons of custom fields and input handlers) with MaxiGallery user galleries conundrum (only manageable by the user who created them). Spent hours and hours looking for a way to solve it here on the forum, but finally gave up and just started by scratch myself. I’m currently in the process of nailing down the final details. It’s turning into a community/e-commerce site way bigger than intended. Thinking of putting together a tutorial when I’m done.

On topic: Yes, maybe I should have a look at xPDO for the migration. Haven’t really looked into it yet. I’ve done some Rails development so if it’s a similar ORM I should be okay.

          Hello,

excuse me for late jump into this thread...

After returning from Django/Django-CMS (promised) land, I had stronlgy felt to use CMSMS which is indeed very nice app, but there is one thing which bothers me: lack of PostgreSQL or rather, not admitting that if one uses non-core modules, the site may break although official reqs are: PostgreSQL 7+.

That’s why I sincerely hope that when MODx gets support for PostgreSQL, it won’t break with add-on modules.

          Sincerely,
          Gour

If Revo Add-ons use the xPDO APIs, then they should just work with future databases that are supported.

I really like that word: Automagically!
I think, thererfor I am! But what I am, and why...?

Yeah, I hope that Add-ons will use abstraction code to make it happen. wink
