Hi there,
I duplicated a website from my own server to the clients server. No problem with that.
The client creates an new folder (/assets/images/yellow_snow ) via FCKE which has the following owner:
www-data:www-data
Creating a folder via ssh in the same place:
webmaster-gk:users
As the new folder (created via FCKE) belongs to a stranger, it is not writeable. Is this an issue of server settings? Any way to avoid it without beeing the servers admin or getting him to change it?
Thumbnails of new pictures aren’t generated. -> gd missing?
Not urgent but important to me.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Guido

Files created by a script (such as uploaded through the File Manager or generated by MaxiGallery) will be owned by the apache user. Your ftp user will probably not be able to manipulate these files. Try using the File Manager; if that doesn’t work then you’ll have to use the file manager on your site’s control panel, unless you have SSH access with a root password.

Thanks for your reply,
i do have a seperate ssh access, but i cannot get the user to use it. The user is supposed to use the file manager only.
If it was only the files it would be no problem - but it is the newly created folders as well...
A assume that i will have to make sure in future contracts, that the given user is the one that executes apache / php.
Thank you anyway,
Dogo

If the user is creating new folders via any PHP script (such as the resource browser, or file manager, or MaxiGallery) then any other PHP script should be able to access it. You may be able to configure your server to automatically generate permissions for new files and folders so that your ftp/ssh user can also manipulate them; I fixed my Solaris VPS to have both the Apache user and my ssh/sftp user belong to the same group, and all new files/folders are group read/write/execute. Of course one of the many suexec options would eliminate this problem altogether, but one can’t always have everything as one would wish! I’ve got several live sites on the server, and don’t want to be playing with basic Apache/PHP configuration under these circumstances.
