    If i run the following test script from my mediatemple account:

    <?php
    $link = mysql_connect(’internal-db.s43893.gridserver.com’, ’db43893_modx_usr’, ’testpassword’);
    if (!$link) {
    die(’Could not connect: ’ . mysql_error());
    }
    echo ’Connected successfully’;
    mysql_close($link);
    ?>

    It connects successfully.

    Thus, i have set my modx config file as follows:

    /**
    * MODx Configuration file
    */
    $database_type = ’mysql’;
    $database_server = ’internal-db.s43893.gridserver.com’;
    $database_user = ’db43893_modx_usr’;
    $database_password = ’testpassword’;
    $database_connection_charset = ’utf8’;
    $database_connection_method = ’SET CHARACTER SET’;
    $dbase = ’db43893_modx_mydb’;
    $table_prefix = ’modx_’;

    if i view my modx database in phpMyAdmin,
    the heading reads:
    Database: db43893_modx_mydb
    and every table starts with "modx_" for instance:
    modx_active_users
    modx_categories
    modx_documentgroup_
    etc...

    with these settings if i run the manager page, i get a blank page. when i open the error logs provided by media temple, there are no logs regarding this blank page load.

    how should I change my settings?

      Try
      $dbase = '`db43893_modx_mydb`';

      notice the addition of backticks.
