    Hi There,

I’m new to the Modx world, but not to the PHP or CMS game.

I just installed modx 0.9.6.3 on my macbook running Mac OSX 10.5.7 - I prefer to use the osx Apache installation and MySQL from source rather than MAMP.

Anyway, installation went fine, but I am struggling to understand an error that I am getting. The Modx management interface found at "/manager" works perfectly, but when I try and view the actual site "/", I get the error included below. I’m confused as to why the management interface is working fine (which obviously also uses the database), but not the front end. Any help is much appreciated.

Sounds like the MySQL engine does not have proper permissions to create/update the index file for the table. Maybe it’s corrupted, or else MySQL simply is not setup properly.

Yes I suspect after some investigation that a Mac OSX update has shut out my mysql user from writing to the /var/tmp directories. I will have to look into how to fix this. I’ve tried granting recursive write permissions to user mysql on /var/tmp but still no joy.

Very similar to an issue that prompted me to learn to love MAMP lipsrsealed

Indeed. After struggling to update PHP on the default OS X install, I switched to MAMP and haven’t looked back since.

I too, after a day of smashing my head against a wall, have decided to run with MAMP. I’m surprised that Apple’s implementation of these applications (on their non-server OS) is so obscure feeling.

I’ve compiled my own Apache, MySQL and PHP on Linux back in the day (Linux kernel too), so it’s not impossible. Just that MAMP makes it soooo much easier to deal with. I keep an eye on it, and upgrade it every now and then. I suppose one of these days I’ll have to go with the Pro version, but I can’t see any reason why I should at this point... unless they come up with a Pro version that can run from a USB device cool

I went with MAMP pro and I’m totally blown away. It’s.... perfect?
