    Hi all,

    We are using MODx 9.6.3 and one of our sites has need for long metatag keywords. MODx is limiting the number of characters to 40 and its causing a bit of a headache.

    Does anyone know of a solution?

    Thanks

    Peter

      You could instead use an alternative approach to managing keywords: Create a template variable called keywords and include
      <meta name="keywords" content="[*keywords*]" ></meta>

      in your template.

        We’ve already filled up about 200 keywords on the internal system so it will be a bit of a slog to convert them all to a TV. Is there any other way do you think?

          You should be able to alter the site_keywords table to give the keyword field more room; it’s set at varchar(40). I don’t think that just enlarging the field will bother the existing entries, but you should back it up first just in case of course.

            Just a quick look and test but I think this will work;

            You would have to hack the file
            manage_metatags.dynamic.php
            in manager actions
            It has several places which set the limit to 40, do a search and replace to your new figure (5 I think).

            But you will also need to change the length of the field in the database using PHPAdmin.

                I managed to get hold of one of our MODx website development team off website building and having a look at the problem and he’s solved it. As far as I can make out he made a change or two to the the MySQL table only and it worked. No FTP, no MODx hacking ... thank god. As far as I understand he made alterations to the "keyword" field in the "modx_site_keywords" table. If anyone needs this info I’ll get the full details and pass them on.
