On our homepage http://www.massflyfishing.com we have a right column that has ’Latest News’ and ’Fishing Reports’ In each section there s updated content. Would it be possible to have each of these sections link to a blog like page? On the blog page would be the currecnt info for each section and past postings as well. I’m sure this is possible but I’m not sure where to begin. Hopefully my ’rookie’ questions will end soon. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Sounds like Ditto to me (http://ditto.modxcms.com/).

That right hand column would contain a Ditto call(s) which would display the latest entries in. You use a TPL chunk, &tpl=`yourTPLchunk`, to create the output structure you want. For example this could link to each specific article or even a landing page that contained another Ditto call that contains the latest number of full articles you want displayed, &display=`5` (this would be controlled with another TPL in this Ditto call).

      Hope that helps.

I have not made my way through all the documentation. I looked at the Ditto forum and tried to figure out how to set this up - needless to say - I’m baffled. Is there a tutorial somewhere that will ’walk’ me through a set up where the homepage has two items. Each item will lead to a separate page that will contain that item and past items. Does this make sense?

The parameters page helps a lot: http://ditto.modxcms.com/files/snippet-ditto-php.html
          ---home---
Your call for the two on the home page would be something like:
          [!Ditto? &startID=`5` &tpl=`homeTPL` &display=`2`!]

The parameter page above should help you customize your Ditto call for your needs.

If you wanted the link to go directly to the article then the TPL (homeTPL) would be something like:
          <h2><a href="[~[+id+]~]" title="[+title+]">[+title+]</a></h2>
          <p>[+introtext+]</p>

If you wanted the link to go to a page listing the 10 latest articles then the TPL (homeTPL) would be something like (the link is static):
          <h2><a href="[~5~]" title="[+title+]">[+title+]</a></h2>
          <p>[+introtextt+]</p>

          ---interior---
Your call on the interior page
          [!Ditto? &startID=`5` &tpl=`interiorTPL` &display=`10`!]

Your interior page with the 10 latest articles might look something like this:
          <h2>[+title+]</h2>
          <p>[+content+]</p>
          <div class="divider"></div>

You can pretty much customize the output any way you want with any of the fields or TVs available to you.

Thanks, is it possible to have each of the 2 homepage articles go to different pages - one for news and one for reports? If so would I use
            [!Ditto? &startID=`5` &tpl=`homeTPL` &display=`2`!]
            [!Ditto? &startID=`5` &tpl=`homeTPL2` &display=`2`!]
            on the page with?

I don’t see why you couldn’t do that. Each would be &display=`1` though.
