htaccess - redirecting from old page to new page (with seo urls on)

Hello,

I have made a new site for my band using modx.

I want to redirect old pages of the site to the relevant new page using htaccess (if someone clicks on a link somewere in cyberspace or from a bookmark).

Say I have this page: domain.com/bandmembers/bm.htm

The new page is: domain.com/biography.php

How do I do it if seo friendly url’s are turned on?

I would have thought...:

...but that does not want to work for me.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I still haven’t resolved this.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Try this;

RewriteRule ^/bandmembers/bm.htm$ /biography.php [NC,R=301]

You would need to run this rule prior to your main MODx rewrite rule.

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately that doesn’t work for me - it returns the custom error page without any change in the browser address bar.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

p.s. this method changes the address bar url but returns the error page as it doesn’t go to the right address...

Redirect 301 /oldpage.htm http://www.domain.com.au/newpage.htm
Result = http://www.domain.com.au/newpage.htm?q=oldpage.htm

this one below does redirect to an existing page with id=7 which is almost there...

redirect 301 /oldpage2.htm http://www.domain.com.au/index.php?id=7
Result = http://www.domain.com.au/index.php?id=7

any ideas how to get it working to the alias (eg /newpage.htm)?
