    Hi - first of all really enjoying learning modx - seems great for a designer (definitely not developer) to make first steps into CMS.

    However, have hit a problem today, hope simple and someone can help (newbie, so bear with me).

    Firefox crashed on me while I was working on a site in the manager, so I had to quit FF.

    Now when I go to the manager address I get the following on screen:

    Warning: session_start(): open(/vhost/vhost5/session/sess_349fb50e48de356ef8ace381099e91ba, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/includes/config.inc.php on line 60

    Originally I also had the login box but it wouldn’t work. On another forum I read to replace the assets/cache files via ftp to clear it, which I did but actually made it worse - now I don’t even see the login box.

    Would anybody have any idea how I can fix this? Many thanks in advance...

      Try clearing your browser cache and cookies (in FF -- Tools | Clear Private Data).

        Cheers - I had tried clearing the cookies but not private data. Have now done so but still the same result I’m afraid.

          My only other thought is that your web host has changed things (e.g. running SuPHP or SuExec which require 755 permissions for folders and 644 for files). I’d check with the host.

            Further to that, if I log in on a different computer, one I’ve not used for modx work before, I get far less error messages:

            Warning: fopen(/vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/media/style//login.html): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php on line 129

            Warning: filesize(): Stat failed for /vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/media/style//login.html (errno=2 - No such file or directory) in /vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php on line 130

            Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php on line 130

            Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /vhost/vhost5/n/e/w/newbridgefoundation.org.uk/www/new/manager/includes/accesscontrol.inc.php on line 131

            which makes me think maybe the others are caused by caching / cookie issues. I’ll investigate that.

            However, the four above I’m still getting all refer to four lines of php in the includes/accesscontrol.inc.php:
            // load template file
            $tplFile = $base_path.’manager/media/style/’.$manager_theme.’/login.html’;
            $handle = fopen($tplFile, "r");
            $tpl = fread($handle, filesize($tplFile));
            fclose($handle);

            I know nothing about php but it seems to not be finding the login page - the theme folder isn’t appearing in the path in the error message.

            Am I on the right track, or miles off it?

                That’s very odd. In the first case, it appears to be a permission problem with config.inc.php -- the other errors cascading from that.

                In the second case, it appears to have read config.inc.php but can’t find the login.html file.

                Does the front end look normal? Do a "view source" on a few pages to see if anything odd appears.

                Were you just editing a document when you had the crash in FF? I can’t imagine that causing any of this.

                  Yep, had to force quit as it seized, and been like this since.

                  Front page of site just has a php parse error now: http://www.newbridgefoundation.org.uk/new/ so no source code to view. Sorry, should have posted this link with original post.

                  Have emailed server support, but nothing yet.

                  Thanks

                    What are the permission settings on the manager/includes folder and the manager/includes/config.inc.php?

                      The includes folder is 755 and the config file is 644. I think those are correct.

                      Had response from host company:
                      There was an issue with the permissions of the session folder that has now been rectified. However your page located at
                      http://www.newbridgefoundation.org.uk/new/ is now returning a 503 error and there’s nothing in the apache logs to say what the cause is.

                      And then some gumpf about it being my problem now but that usual causes are database or permission issues.

                      So now the manager still turns up the same four errors detailed above.

                      And if you go to the page www.newbridgefoundation.org.uk/new it is now blank - no parse error now but blank.

                      Is there an easy way to reinstall modx over the top of the existing install, without losing current work?

                      Thanks
