    Hi BobRay,

not really that more, it now says:
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: (0)
SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. Mailer Error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

That was clear so far wink

    Any more suggestions?

    Cheers

IIRC, to see the detailed mailer debug info, I had to jump through some hoops. I remember digging in to to the MODx mail code and the PhpMailer code to figure out how. Sorry I can’t remember the details.

With debug level set to 4, I got a ton of information (too much, really).

        Hi Frisco,

I’m having the same issue and I was wondering if you found a solution to the problem.

        Thanks,
        Matt

I have just spent the last few hours configuring my Ubuntu Hardy server to allow Modx to send mail.
I was interested in the Gmail via msmtprc solution but I eventually went with Postfix. Installation was pretty simple following these instructions

          http://articles.slicehost.com/2008/7/29/postfix-installation

I left the php.ini mail settings as default, as Postfix takes over from sendmail once its installed.

; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").
          ; sendmail_path =

After installation and reboot i was able to send mails via the eForm snippet.
note: I am only using it to send mails via eForm and have not tested it for anything else.

If it sends from eForm then the PHP mail() function will work for any script. Be careful, as if it’s not configured correctly anybody can configure their PHP to use your server as their mail server!
