Hi everyone, I need help with a project and I hope you can help me.

Basically, we need to build a website to our client. As usual, we will use MODx to manage it. Although, our client doesn’t want to go through MODx to change his content. In fact, he only needs to change some images once in a while. So, I’d like to build a simple page where he could login, then upload his images and maybe select the one he wants to show. In order to do that, I guess I need to use MODx’s API. I’m familiar with MODx’s Manager, but not with its API. By the way, I’m not bad with PHP.

Is there any good tutorial I could read to get started ? Do you have any suggestions ?

    Thank you in advance !

The MaxiGallery snippet will let users manager a photo gallery from the front end after logging in. It’s not too difficult to set up.

        Thanks for your reply.

But let’s say our client would like to add some text too ? laugh

Is there a way to just modifiy specific template variables with a simple manager ?

That can definitely be done. MaxiGallery does allow titles and captions for all the photos. I’m not sure what the text limit would be for captions, though.

If you want to have the user edit a free-form page with photos, the best bet is to customize the Manager and use the Manager’s editing screen with TinyMCE (which can also be customized).

Good point. I had forgotten about the custom fields. That would probably be the way to go.

Another option is to use NewsManager/Editor snippets assigned to a template with PHx functions.
So whenever a web user gives a document object a certain value (e.g. check a checkbox)
in the editor, (So if editor tells *description* to be YesIncludeMG) then PHx will load a
chunk with snippet call (or the snippet call right away) for MG.
This way the user can control not only the pictures but also the galleries. smiley

Ok, I also have another project on the way. We would like to create a custom manager where our client would be able to create a page that uses a template and includes template variables. This way, our client would be able to login, fill the required fields (template variables), upload a few images and then submit, and that would create a MODx page, like in MODx Manager.

Would mrhaw’s suggestion be a better choice for that ? If so, where can I find some documentation and tutorials on this subject ?

                    Thanks again !

read the docs about manager user roles or play with it in the manager.
You should be able to choose which parts of the manger are visible for plain users.
Add managermanager plugin and maybe even this http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Customizing_the_Manager_Homepage and you have a customized manager.
