    Hello,

I’ve been designing a web site and the customer wants to be able to add new parts to there existing catalog. Typically I would just do it for them in the future but I’d rather have it so they would have a simple, easy interface to go in add the part title, picture, and a couple of features. Would ModX be good to integrate into my already built website just for this specific purpose? I’ve never used a CMS and I’m starting to think maybe I should because it might make my life a little easier and from what I’ve read it seems like Modx might be the one I want to go with. Is this a reasonable application of Modx?

    Thanks

What you want is very doable with MODx and would definitely make your life easier once you had it working. MODx takes some time to learn, though, and it’s hard to say whether learning it would pay off for you unless you do a fair amount of work on that and other web sites.

Because MODx is a complete CMS, it doesn’t really make sense to add MODx to your current install. Instead, what you’d do is create a new MODx install and port your current site into it.

Take a look at this (http://bobsguides.com/porting-your-site-to-modx.html) to see some of the issues involved. You might first want to look at the link in my sig for an intro to how MODx works.

Pretty much I want all my design and the rest of my pages static except for the products so the customer can easily add and remove products as necessary without knowing code. I’m worried about using a CMS because I don’t want it to limit my design to how all the blogs look which is cookie cutter. I have a godaddy account which I can install to so I guess I’ll try it out.

You’ll find that unlike other CMS products, MODx will put no limitations on your look and feel. The price you pay for that is a little more work setting things up.

Since MODx makes it easy to separate the content from the mechanics of the site, it’s usually pretty easy to provide a friendly way for clients to create and edit content.

By all means give it a try and ask any questions here in the forums.
