    Hello all!

I am REALLY new to modx, or any CMS for that matter. But having been introduced to it by a friend, I couldn’t help but read on and begin to get a sense of great community, learning and applying great knowledge. However, I do have to tell you that I am a noob, although not 100% complete but just a few notches above ground zero noob. Yes, it sucks to be me, but that’s how it is - for now.

My questions are many and I don’t like being directed to an outdated documentation page. The Core team here claims that modx is VERY easy to use. If its so easy, than how come even a noob can’t get it up and running without great frustration?

I want to create a template. I want to incorporate some cool GUI, banner rotation, to be able to write into an interface original stories and so on. How do I get that started? Just so you know, I have downloaded modx-2.0.0. And most importantly, please do not be offended by my writing here. I am a little frustrated today and unfortunately its spilled onto my very first post in this forum. Please forgive me for that.

      Yorgo-

I can sympathize with your frustrations. Nothing gets me angrier than dealing with bad documentation.

Understand that installing a CMS like MODx means you’re dealing with 3 fairly complex things: a web server (e.g. apache), MySQL, and PHP. Each of those is a complicated topic, and for MODx to work, it requires harmonious integration between all three. I’d recommend that you stick to the current 0.9.6.3 version of MODx instead of trying to work with the development 2.0 version. Learn to swim before you jump into the deep end of the pool! It’s much more difficult to deal with software that’s in development, even for people who are very experienced!

I’ve been doing some videos for MODx, and if you have a few minutes to spare, I’d recommend that you go through a couple of these just to get an idea of what a CMS (and MODx in particular) can do for you:
