    Hey guys,

    I’m currently creating a website that has over 50,000 pages and so far I’ve already added about 40,000.  I’m having issues with everything loading very slow, including the content manager.  Is there a way to optimize MODx to run faster for large sites?

    I am using version 0.9.6.3

    Here is the error I am now getting when trying to view a page:
    Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 90 seconds exceeded in /usr/home/mysite/public_html/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php on line 1231

    Please help!

      You’re WAY past the limit of what you should build in MODx 096x. This has been discussed regularly. There’s a lot you can do to help, but your cache is what’s killing it. I wouldn’t use 096x personally for anything more than 5,000 documents or so.

        What version should I use? That was the most recently added version I saw so I thought I was safe, apparently not. Is it easy to upgrade to the latest version? Thanks!

          There might be a solution. Not the best, but it might do the trick for now.

          Create a plugin/snippet that deletes the old cache files and keeps the latest 5000 cached files in the "cache" folder.

          You could also upgrade to the new modx version but it’s still in alpha.

            Revo beta is going to be your best bet honestly when it’s released. There’s not a solid solution for the legacy code base.

            40,000 pages is a ton. Wouldn’t a lot of that data probably be better represented as views into custom tables?

              Not sure what you mean by views into custom tables...

              Each page is different, I used Excel to format each page title, description, page title, link alias and also added 3 template variables to store some additional data for each page.

              I installed the revolution version and created a new DB for it, but I’m already lost in using it. I was able to create a template and chunks and get them to work together, but I have no idea how to pass the other information (Title, Long Title, Description, Content) into the template. I tried using the following but it didn’t work:

              I have the below in a chunk named header:
              <title>[*pagetitle*] | [(site_name)]</title>
              <meta name="description" content="[*description*]" />

              And this is a template I created:
              [*content*]

              My main concern is getting all my existing pages in this version. I tried importing the exported DB but got an error.

              SQL query:

              --
              -- Dumping data for table `modx_active_users`
              --
              INSERT INTO `modx_active_users` ( `internalKey` , `username` , `lasthit` , `id` , `action` , `ip` )
              VALUES ( 1, 'admin', 1242241993, NULL , '2', '' ) ;

              MySQL said: Documentation
              #1048 - Column 'id' cannot be null
