I havent logged into my site in a while and suddenly when I try to get into the manager it logs me in but the top and left portions of the screen are filled with the following errors:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mountv5/public_html/manager/frames/nodes.php on line 111
    This folder is empty

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mountv5/public_html/manager/actions/welcome.static.php on line 158

What happened? And how does it happen all by itself?? I’ve taken a backup of the database, and ran the simple diagnostics from the cpanel, and it seems to check out. Should I re-run the installer??

    Please help!

    Thanks

The error I reported above also recurred with a fresh database and fresh install on the same server (sorry for the line mixup above btw) So, here’s what happened:

About a month ago I created a site on this server and had logged in and made changes frequently without any problems. Now, I come back to it a few weeks later and I log into the manager but cannot see the document tree or any feeds. Hence I can’t edit my site. In the left column and top (below tabs) I get these warnings:

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mountv5/public_html/manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 17

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mountv5/public_html/manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 19

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mountv5/public_html/manager/frames/nodes.php on line 107

I tried doing an upgrade install...no change. I tried resetting the database..no change. Finally, I took a backup of my database and templates then created a NEW BLANK database, cleared out all old files from the server, reuploaded ModX and did a FRESH install. SAME ERRORS. This is really strange. Could it be a server problem? But I have many other sites with the same hosting company and with the same configurations. Any ideas??

      Your help is much appreciated

        rambleonme,

Were you ever able to resolve this issue? I am having the same problem and would greatly appreciate any information you may have come across.

Here are the errors that I am getting:

        • Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in …manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 17

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in …manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 19

        Thanks in advance!

Sounds to me like the hosting provider upgraded or changed the configuration of MySQL to use one of the STRICT modes. This can cause issues with fields marked NOT NULL if a query is passed with a null value.

            Susan,

Thank you for the response. Not sure I understand it, but I will pass it along to my hosting company and see what they say. We are using Media Temple and if you haven’t heard, we had a major outage a few weeks back. So I don’t doubt that it is something on their end.

Also, I wanted to say thank you for the great the "MODx From the Inside" content on you site. I came across it the other day while trying to resolve a few issues I was having. It was very informative.

            Cheers,
            Laura

I am also getting this error on one of my MediaTemple MODx sites that just went live !! sad

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /nfs/c04/h04/mnt/67311/domains/yogapod.com/html/manager/frames/nodes.php on line 107

This kept happening all over the manager for about five minutes, now it’s back to normal. Is there anything I can do to prevent this or does MediaTemple GS just blow?

That sounds like an overloaded database server.

Totally, I’ve been having loads of issues with MediaTemple gs.

I think I’m either going to upgrade to MediaTemple dv or bulk up my suso skills and switch to SliceHost.

                  Any recommendation?

The issues I described above were finally resolved. I am also using Media Temple and was on Grid Server 1 until. About a week ago. I was told by a third party tech the these issues would resolve themselves once we were using the newest version of MySQL, which was not the case on GS1.

I called Media Temple and asked to be migrated to another Grid, which is a process that they are working on moving everyone who is on that grid anyway. But if you are having problems you can get them to move you to the top of the line.

While the actual process only takes about an hour, it took about 4 days for me to finally get someones attention.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
                    Cheers,
                    Laura

I avoid cloud based servers for data driven apps like the plague!!! MT is great but their GS hosts are scary.
