The tremendous flexibility in how to design my site, with placeholders, chunks, snippets, TV’s and Ditto.
I think, thererfor I am! But what I am, and why...?

        AjaxSearch obviously ...

AjaxSearch for me concentrate lot of IT interesting subjects:
        - build the right mySql request, which fit exactly the request user (results/performances)
        - algorithm to provide the extracts where a search term has been found
        - ajax (with mootools library) and js to display the results
        - manage utf8 but also non multibyte charset, to do for instance a search with accented characters
        - input form and security issues (like XSS)
        - php (which needs debugging and profiling)
and soon jquery and xpdo ...

And the search feature is the key feature on internet. Look at Google ...

But may be I am not impartial laugh

I would have to go with the flexibility of the templating system.

modx’s best feature?  that it is "modx"
Well said grin But then I ask you what is the most significant feature that makes it be "modx"?
Ok, then. For me it’s not the TV’s, chunks, snippets and all that stuff that makes modx what it is. To me the BEST feature is that I can deliver a CMS to ludites, give them a 3 hour session and not get hassled for support for the next three years. And that’s because they digg it!

I’d have to agree with TobyL. I built a fairly complex site for some people who know nothing beyond MS Word and e-mail. They create and edit pages, upload .pdf newsletters, send each other e-mail through the contact page, manage a mailing list, add and edit photo galleries, manage a calendar, and add news stories that are summarized on the home page with Ditto.

I sent them each one or two e-mails on how to do stuff and, unless the hosting service changes something that causes a problem with the site, I *never* hear from them except when they feel like telling me how much they love the site. grin

And . . . I was a total MODx newbie when I built the site (my first MODx site).

I am surprised no one mentioned QuickEdit. I was very impressed with QuickEdit. The ability to easily edit content in the front end while navigation through the site is way cool. Yet it was not even mentioned as a favorite. Did QuickEdit have any influence on your love of modx?

For my part I run some sites where I’m the only admin or with only one other admin, so I actually don’t use Quickedit on those sites. But I’m starting on a new one now, so maybe I will discover it’s usefulness then.

+1 about TVs since I have to quote one single favorite feature : it’s still unmatched IMHO even by drupal CCK module or various implementation of custom fields I have seen (like in EE).

QuickEdit is a key selling point for clients, but we hardly think about it since we’re more technically inclined and probably use it less if ever...
