    Hi- I am a beginner here-
    I installed MODx fine once before, but now, in trying again, keep getting this error.

    I created my DB using these instructions from a co-worker-

    2. go to the mysql directory:
    cd /var/lib/mysql
    3. log into mysql:
    mysql -u root -p
    Enter password:
    4. create a DB:
    CREATE DATABASE newintegra;
    5. create a user and password for the DB (and grant them permissions):

    GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, INDEX, ALTER, CREATE, DROP ON Paco.* TO ’newintegra’@’localhost’ IDENTIFIED BY ’integra1’;

    Am I doing something wrong with the permissions??
    I seem to remember having this problem before, and having to go in and chmod777 a file or a folder, but can’t remember which one.

    Thanks for any help..

      Looks like you’re granting privileges on the wrong database. Try logging into MySQL and run the following:

      GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON newintegra.* TO 'newintegra'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'integra1';
      FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

      Where ’integra1’ is your password. You’ll have to tell MODx 3 things:
      Database Name: newintegra
      Database User: newintegra
      Database Password: integra1

      Your setup there looks a bit confusing because it seems like you have a database and a user that have the same name. In your example you granted privileges to all tables on a database named "Paco" -- Paco.* means all tables in the Paco database.

          cool- it worked, but it failed and asked me to use "set names" instead of "set character set"- is that ok?

            Great. The set names thing should be fine... I’ve seen that on many installs. I think it’s just a setting that changes how MODx uses table/column names (somebody else could probably enlighten us on this one, though).
