Literacy site in South Africa with mixed IE issues... (down to one big issue)

I built this site for a volunteer effort to help with school literacy in South Africa: http://www.theshinecentre.org.za/

Its a work in progress. Its OK in the good browsers, IE7 and IE8.

Big issues with IE6 though. I need this to function in IE6 as there are many users down there that still use this browser.

I am using jQuery to render a nav sprite on the top nav bar. The Home graphic is showing for all the links instead of the real ones. The correct graphic links flash when the page loads but then they vanish. I am using a PNGfix here which might be the culprit. But I have used this system before on another site and it works on IE6.

Also, on the Home page the MaxiGallery thumbnails are not showing at all in IE6.

Some other stuff as well but these are the two main ones with IE6 I want to fix first. These folks are doing incredible work and I want to get this site functioning correctly for them.

Any ideas?

Interesting...

As a test I removed the following from the template (in the head) and both problems seemed to have resolved themselves:

        <script type="text/javascript" src="assets/templates/shinebasic/js/unitpngfix.js"></script>
<![endif]-->

Obviously a js conflict...

Still working on this...

EDIT: Ok the top navigation is fixed and the Maxigallery thumbnails are showing BUT the full images are not displaying when you click on the thumbnails. The background to the Fancybox jQuery is also not working well with that PNGfix missing. Obviously I am onto the issue here. Just need to figure it out...

I think I have most of the other div and css issues sorted out for IE6.

All that is left is the non working Gallery on the Home page...

Update: I just dunno...

The gallery works in Firefox, Safari 4, IE7 and IE8. Its a mess in IE6 though. The thumbs are there. The jQuerry script is working behind the scenes, but the full size images will not show. The PNG files around the image edges don’t work either. Adding a PNGfix does not display the big images and will sometimes ruin the upper Navigation...

I hate Internet Explorer...
