Hi
Has anyone managed to implement Google First Click Free (FCF)?
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=74536
Basically we have protected members only content on a site and need google to be able to crawl this without logging in, google recommends this should work by checking the useragent for googlebot.
Currently the website uses document permissions, so I have a feeling to get this type of solution to work is to hack the MODx core, something i would rather not do.
If anyone has any experience of FCF or how to get google to index members pages for a preview before registering that would be great.
Thanks Aaron

Just had a thought could I perhaps create a Plugin which runs @ OnWebPagePrerender and have this detect if it’s googlebot and if so set some flag to say logged in? which passes to the MODx core?
that’s what i would do- create a plugin for it.
there are security implications tho. Someone can spoof their referrer and ip address.

Yep thats a good point, I guess the other option would be to utilise the summary box on the page then use a dItto call on a news page setting the startid to be the folder on the secure news and for it only to retrieve the summary text on protected documents.
I think ditto has an option to show protected documents will have a look now.
