I can’t find any documentation for the marquee widget used in TV’s.
I want to add a scrolling testimonial area on a site and can do it with javascript added directly to the page but i want to integrate this into MODX so the client has editing abilities.
Anyone help with this?
Thanks

I just tried creating a text tv with marquee and added text in default value. It works by modx
adds this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="manager/media/script/mootools/mootools.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="manager/media/script/mootools/moodx.js"></script>
Hi,
Thanks for the reply but unfortunately I’m still a little vague as to what to actually do.
do i need to create a snippet?
I’ve created a TV [*scroller*] but what do i add in the default value?
I need this to display as either a separate page ID or as a TV so the client has control over the text content.
Could anyone post a step by step?
Any help much appreciated.
thanks

If you click to edit [*scroller*] within Quick Edit the text area you see opens to edit is the "default value".
You can do anything you want, you can type in html, call a chunk {{...}} , a snippet [[...]] or another tv [*...*]
The reason to call another tv is if you want the client to be able to use rich text widget from manager or Quick Edit. - bad idea.
The above snippet suggestion by Breezer is a how-to for styling/controling the client output w/o having the client
to deal with html.
Hi Mrhaw,
I’m sorry but i’m missing something here.
So i’ve got a TV with marquee selected and have called it [*scroller*]...now what?
The marquee widget provides the scrolling function right?
So i just need to find some way to add content so that it displays on the page where i place the TV placeholder.
The static html is as follows:
<div class="box2">
<h3>Testimonials...</h3>
<p>testimonial info here</p>
</div>
...so presumably i would add the TV like so:
<div class="box2">
<h3>Testimonials...</h3>
[*scroller*]
</div>
but then what?
sorry if i’m being dumb, but i just can’t figure it out and i’ve never used the widgets before.
Thanks

You can do that, it requires your client to add html in the tv from inside manager working with the document or
outside clicking Quick Edit -> Content -> scroller
The other option is to use the snippet from wiki, my suggestion of adding a rich text widget inside the marquee was
dumb and didnt work.
So the snippet is the way to go unless your fine with client typing in just text in a text area.
The way you have your TV set up should be fine, I made one exactly the same way, with Input Type - Textarea
All the other options were left default, with some default content:
scroller 1
scroller 2
scroller 3
Add the [*scroller*] TV to the template (making sure the TV is set to be allowed for that template).
Now add/edit the scroller content by editing/creating a document and adding it to the TV there.
Note that I used
between the scroll items in the TV content to get new lines.
Just FYI: formatting for the widgets can be found in - manager/includes/tmplvars.format.inc.php
that did it...i’ve actually changed the input to rich text so the client has better control over formatting.
Thank you very much for your help....very much appreciated.
