General questions for a product catalog search

Hello, first post here.

I’ve built a couple of sites with MODx but I haven’t really looked into any search related stuff, so pardon if I ask stupid questions.

I’m building a new website for a client. He wants a searchable product catalog, so that the user can enter some criteria (3-5 text boxes max.) and get view best suited product(s) for him. The products should show up as a list of thumbnail image, name and some extra info (a couple of lines), and clicking the product name would take the user to the product info page (the same page accessible via browsing the product catalog). And there would have to be some sort of "go back to search results" link.

Now, how would I go about doing this? Any help and ideas are appreciated. Thank you in advance!

btw., i don’t know how popular tvExplorer & tvEditor actually are, but i think they are some of the underrated (or hidden) treasures of MODx
