Support with New Template

Hello I am a new member to the MODx Community & have a very basic question
First i have read the WIKI regarding installing templates, really I just need to clarify the way templates work.

First I tried to create a template via the admin but found that the ’webdesign’ directory was not automatically created
I then uploaded the new template to assets/templates/webdesign

When I make any modifications via the admin Where are the changes stored if not in the template directory?
if I download webdesign.tpl the changes which I have made in the admin do not affect the template file.

For example I need to be able to modify the template in both dreamweaver & in the admin area.

The template is called from database (you create the template in a textbox that writes to db table) the folder is for images and css files... But you

interface.

By default the template files is a database entry, you add it by logging into the Manager and selecting Resources > Manage Resources and select the Templates tab. Give the template a name and copy the markup into the field. Save and it will show in the content editor under "Uses Template".

There is the alternative to use an include snippet (as the link mrhaw provided illustrates) or you could also use the recently release template from file plugin: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,32493.0.html

In all 3 examples you will need to create a corresponding template in the manager (a record in the database).
