Im running friendly urls on my modx sites.

For the home page the alias is index/

If i delete it and leave it blank, it gives the doc ID (1)

I want this to default to just the domain as the home link.

I currently running a 301 from /index to the domain.

But would rather each home link just point to the domain.

Is it possible to have No document alias for the index doc?

This is a fairly big SEO issue i think smiley

I think the SEO Strict URL plugin will handle this but it may have some corner cases where it causes other issues. For Revo, this won’t be needed.

I installed the SEO Strict URL plugin, but it stripped out my domain name from all of the links, leaving only the folder and alias names. I’m using friendly alias paths, and want to be able to leave the home page alias blank, so that an about page could be aliased as domain.com/about, and a section of articles could be aliased as domain.com/columns/article-name.

Without SEO Strict URL, the blank alias on the home page inserts a ’1’ in the path, i.e. domain.com/1/about.
I changed the home page alias to ’pages’, and got domain.com/pages/about and domain.com/pages/columns/article-name, but it really seems like an unnecessary step to have to include an alias segment in the path, trailing off the home page.

Is there any way to use friendly alias paths without a home page alias, and without having the ’1’ inserted?

        Thanks,

        Peter

You might try adding [(site_url)] in front of the links in your Wayfinder tpl. I don’t know if the plugin would strip that out or not.

Sorry for digging up this old post, but I’m having a similar issue.

My home page shows up for both http://www.mydomain.com/ and http://www.mydomain.com/home, where ’home’ is the url alias given to my home page. I need to keep the home alias to preserve my website folder structure as the home page also serves as a container. I can’t help thinking that Google might be giving me a duplicate content penalty for my home page...not good!

Anyway, I’ve tried using a 301 Redirect to sort this out:

            Redirect 301 /home http://www.mydomain.com/

            But this doesn’t work...
I try to access ’http://www.mydomain.com/home’ and it just redirects to: http://www.mydomain.com/?q=home

How to get it redirected just to the root instead?!!

              Solved!

Typical, I’ve tried a few more things and found a solution. Why does that always happen just after posting!!

              This one worked instead:

              RewriteRule ^home$ http://www.mydomain.com/ [R=301,L]

Hi, i used your solution as well and it worked great at first, but then i noticed strange search results on google. What i mean is, google started pasting the pagetitle of the excluded alias(home) on all pages, so i started getting google results in this format:

                MySiteName-Chairs-Home

                instead of

                MySiteName-Chairs

How did you work around this problem?
