    Hi,

I’ve used MODx for a while and it’s a great CMS. Recently a project came up that it seemed like EE was a better fit so I started learning it. There are some things about it that are very nice, but there are many things from MODx that I miss. I’m looking to see if I can implement the essential features from EE that I want in MODx.

The first big thing that I like about EE is how you can filter through weblog entries (a little) like you are looking in a database. There are many pieces of content where handing the items as pages in the MODx way seems akward. It’s nicer to think of it as data and then just filter it through whatever presentation I want. The other problem with this has to do with the number of "pages" data creates - in EE I could have thousands of entries that I can easily filter and display how I want. I don’t know what would happen if I tried to open a folder in the manager that had 1000+ children - or how I’d manage it.

Very related to this is the templating system that EE offers for looping through weblogs/data. I still like having all the data structures that are natural in MODx (TV, snippet, chunk) but I would like a way to loop through the data without using something like Ditto or wayfinder - creating all those chunks to handle all the html around the loops doesn’t appeal to me. If I could do the same thing with some simple looping, that would be the best. The templating in MODx has always been a sore spot for me and I tried TBS and PHx but it always seemed akward. In the end I resorted to snippets with templates in php - but much of that functionality is just getting some array and looping through it.

If anyone knows of modules/plugins or techniques to bring some of these features into the fold of MODx I’d be thankful.
