    Hi guys,

Just to make sure I get this right,

When I try to access my root files using the file manager in the manager and I get ’access denier’, is an issue with my php.ini file or is a manager configuration issue?

This is a new hosting account running on Paralles/Plesk, PHP5/MYSQL

When you say "root files", what exactly do you mean? Do you mean the files at the DocumentRoot of the site? E.g. the index.php? Or do you mean files owned by root?

Normally, the file manager only can manage files within the /assets/ folder, but this default location may have been changed (in the manager, go to Tools-->Configuration and edit the "Resource Path" and "Resource URL"-- both should be "assets/"). You may have to logout / login after changing this setting. When I set my resource path to "/", I could not mess with many of the files at the site root. I didn’t have the permissions to delete or edit them. Is this what you’re experiencing?

I Everett, Thanks for the reply.

Yes, My issue is with the site root (where index.php resides).

My ource path and my Resource URL are both set to ’assets/’ but like you pointed out, "could not mess with many of the files at the site root. I didn’t have the permissions to delete or edit them", though I’m not using the "/".

        Any thoughts?

I don’t know if MODx has safeguards built-in... obviously, it’d be unhealthy to delete some of the vital files, so maybe MODx is preventing you from doing that.

Or it could simply be server permissions. The permissions on the assets directory, for example, are typically much looser than the permissions elsewhere on the site.

Is your file manager uploading/editing working normally in the assets folder?

What are the file permissions on the assets folder?

What are the file permissions on your site index.php?

Who owns those files (apache? root? What’s the group?)

Yeah, I think it could be a server permission issue.

These are the files with writing permission :
            assets/cache (and its files)
            assets/images
the index.php in the root is also set to 777

The site is hosted by a german hosting company www.domainbox.de

Do u think I should look into the .ini file instead of MODx?

I’ve never had to mess with the php.ini file...

What are you trying to do, exactly? Which files do you need to modify and why? There’s a good reason why you shouldn’t be able to mess with the files at the root of the site...

Sorry, I’m still a bit confused as to what you’re trying to do, but I think it does have to do with your server permissions.

                Thanks for keeping up man,

I will speak with the hosting company and see how I can get some file upload permissions.

Thanks for your time, i appreciate it

i remove "/" from end of path-string. the message invalid path is disappered. the new error message is "access denied" but the directory has 0777
