    Greetings ModXperts,

I’ve done a couple ’ground-up’ ModX sites thus far but am now redoing an existing site. My plan is to build around the existing site using ModX and get everything 100%  then 301 redirect the old content to the new content. When i installed the ModX install I changed the name of index.php to modxindex.php because the existing site uses index.php and I didn’t want to muck anything up that’s there now. My problem is that now I cant get FURL’s to work!

I’ve done the .htaccess mod_rewrite stuff a few times by now so I know i’m doing it right, but I can’t get the darned thing to work this time. I think it has something to do with the fact i renamed the initial root index.php! When I create new documents and click preview it just takes me to index.php?id=xx and therefore just to the existing homepage.

Any ideas how I can get this thing going?

not sure you can rename index.php without making several changes tot he core code. And you would also need to edit the mod-rewrite rules to work with te file name you created (but I don’t think it would work under a different name).

Thanks for the reply- that’s what I was afraid of!

How do people out there prefer to re-design sites? Does it make more sense to WAMP it? Or would it be smarter to build inside a /dev/ folder then remap the domain name to that folder once everything is perfect?

I have very little experience with WAMP’s but it seems like might be the smarter way to go? Though I could see issues presenting themselves with URL paths!

Thanks for any more advice anyone might have!

Just rename index.php and change it in the rewrite rule. That should work as long as you don’t use any components that refer specifically to index.php, which they shouldn’t ever anyway.

Tried that last night but to no avail, when you click preview page from the manager view it will default to index.php?id. I looked through a lot of the code last night and it looks like index.php is referenced a lot. Tried to change a lot of them but could never get a noticeable result. I decided to develop in a /dev/ folder and then just pull it into my /www/ when i’m ready to launch after changing .htaccess and the base path. Thanks for the help though!

Yes, the preview page from the manager will not work, but everything else should be fine.
