Hi everyone,
firstly, I’d just like to say congrats to the MODx team and to the fantastic support community. I’m delving into open source CMS’s and have spent a lot of time attempting to understand Drupal then happened to stumble upon MODx (in a moment of frustration with Drupal). I’ve found MODx far more intuitive and seems to work the way I expect it to. Anyway, I’ll get to the point...
After installing a number of times on a local XAMPP and getting FURLs to work without any problem, I have taken the plunge and successfully installed 0.9.6.3 on an Apache server (shared hosting provider). Here is my document tree:
/company
/newsl
/products (container)
/products/abc
/products/xyz
FURLs works to a point in that any document off the root e.g. company.html, news.html and products.html are all working correctly using the alias name I have given each doc. However, when I attempt to visit the /products/abc.html page or /products/xyz.html page I get "No input file specified" in FF and a 404 in IE. This is via the Wayfinder menu in the default installation template. It is producing the correct URLs for the menu links, however from the server’s perspective the docs don’t exist at those locations. If I enter /abc.html the correct page is displayed.
My Friendly URLs config is:
- Use friendly: Yes
- Prefix: blank
- Suffix: .html
- Friendly aliases: Yes
- Friendly alias path: Yes
- Allow dupliactes: Yes
- Auto generate: No
I’ve used the .htaccess created by the installation and have confirmed that it is being parsed, as well as the one in /manager.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
The only thing I use:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA,NC]
I’m no expert in this, but I can use alias path...

Based on your description, it should be working properly. Are you using any plugins or other add-ons that could be affecting the behavior (e.g. SEOStrict plugin)?
No plug-ins or add-ons.
This is very weird though... I have have added another container off the root with a couple of pages which is going to be a password protected knowledge base section:
/knowledgebase (container)
/knowledgebase/welcome
/knowledgebase/article-a
/knowledgebase/article-b
etc.
I’ve got this working using the WebLogin snippet and when an authorized webuser logs in, I land them on the welcome page which displays with the correct alias path ( /knowledgebase/welcome.html ). I have links on the welcome page to a couple of placeholder articles and these pages also display correctly with the right alisas path ( /knowledgebase/article-a.html)
I have tried deleting one of the product pages and recreating it but the new one still has the same problem. My next step is to delete then recreate the entire /products container. but I think this is clutching at straws.
I deleted the Products container doc (and its children) and recreated it with new child docs. Problem still exists. I even used mrhaw’s .htaccess.
You have <base href> element in head?
What is shown if you go to www.yoursite.com/22 - id of document inside a container?
Was it only a problem with the docs in specific ’product’ container?
Wasn’t you able to reach them at all or was it only a problem through
wayfinder links?
