All your help has been really useful, still a few things though; when I use a TV I can’t get a version of it that comes with the editor tinyMCE, it’s an editbale section sure, but just a thin box to edit in and no WYSIWYG editor, what I meant before was that if I chose richtext in the lower field of the TV setup, then it actaully places a testbox on the page that can be written on from the front end, do you know what I mean, how do I get the new editable section to work in the same way to the [*content*] area, with editor and all?

Think I’ve answered my own question again!!!

The TV settings have to be richtext with no widget selected, although there’s nowhere to select the editor, it turns up when you want to edit! Great!

So where there are changes that would require something really different, you can use a different template that’s very similar to the main one and just select that for a particular page id? I’m starting to get it now, it’s taken me a good 5/6 hours slog, but it’s starting to make sense. I can see how chunks work in a similar way I would use a php include for say a menu or something as that take raw html and isn’t WYSIWYG editable, I guess it’s just snippets now!

Without your help I couldn’t have done it, thank you very much!

Say you want some variable html in the site, ie, you’ve got a piece of pre-written code that you want to add to some pages, but the code needs to be slightly different each time, a chunk wouldn’t be right as once that’s in the template it’ll be chucked up the same each page. A snippet is php, (guess I could use an inlcude call and beam in html that way?) but the only way I’ve used so far is to create a richtext TV and then switch the editor to html, is that the best way?

LOL, I’m the only one responding to me now!!!

A snippet it seems with an include come out on every page, which is fine if that’s what you want, I guess there maybe a way to make snippets appear only on selected pages, without using multiple templates, but the TV with rich text and then swtiched to html is a fine way to do it from my experiments!

I’m flying with this now! grin grin

One other question (for now) what’s the smoothest way to install a pre-built modx set up? Naturally I don’t want to have to build the dynamic part live as it would be a lot of messing on the screen for a few hours, so I can build it on a sub url /modx-build for eg, or on a virtual set up but then transferring it over to live, what’s the best method, I guess the sub folder is a good way as the DB would already be there etc it would just be a matter of moving everything from public_html/modx-build to public_html, would that be it, or would you have to change a path to the database? If so where?

          Thanks
